About

R World

On Robbie’s passing tributes flowed in and in total, just from our friends and family, over £12,000 was raised. Some was donated to the Samaritans and the remainder has helped the friends and family of Robbie create a foundation in his memory: ‘R World’; the name he gave to his travel blog.

Two main purposes for R World were quickly agreed upon as shown on our project pages, and both Robbie’s secondary school, Simon Langton School for Boys and the University of Nottingham were very keen to support our work.

Chair of Trustees

The decision about whether to create a foundation to honour my son’s life was easy. Robbie had given so much in his lifetime and had so much more to give so this was the only way forward. I was always in awe of his intelligence, gentle nature and competitive spirit. He was especially helpful to me when his dad passed in January, 2019 and showed such strength. He always seemed to have the right words to pick me up during that difficult year. Now all his wise words are helping me cope with the loss of him.

As well as giving Robbie the legacy he so deserves, I feel motivated to help other young people struggling with their mental health. Robbie would be pleased that we are also honouring his interest in International Development and the High Five Club is a wonderful charity our family have supported for years.

I have known Lesley and the Curtis family for a long time. I am a musician and teacher and until recently I worked at the Musicians’ Union where part of my remit was to look after the Health and Wellbeing of musicians. I am an advocate for supporting and educating individuals to help look after both their physical and mental health and was therefore delighted when Lesley asked me to be involved in the work of the R World foundation. I am also a 500 hour Registered Yoga Teacher and currently teach yoga classes online.

When the idea of setting up a foundation was originally discussed I knew immediately I wanted to be involved. As I was growing up and going through the education system it became apparent to me that there was often a lack of support and understanding for those who were struggling mentally. These feelings within me intensified when we lost our incredible friend Robbie in August 2020.

The foundation is a great opportunity to continuously add to Robbie’s already remarkable legacy. It is my hope that through our work we can contribute to creating an environment in which people can gain more of an understanding around mental health and in turn help those around them. In many ways it is our goal to reflect the support and understanding that Robbie always showed others throughout his life. I believe this is key to overcoming the stigma amongst young people surrounding these issues that many face. This should enable us to help those who are tragically so often left behind.
